Abstract

As a product of a lifetime dedicated to Folklore, Journal of Turkish Folklore Researches served to Turkish Folklore for 31 years by publishing numerous research, compilation and survey papers on folklore throughout its lifespan as durable publication in the field of folklore in Turkey, thereby contributing to the improvement of the methodology and terminology of the folklore field, introducing the new published folkloristic books to its readers, making efforts to gain government support for folklore research and successfully achieving some of its requests in this regard as well as following up the folkloristic events in Europe, sending representatives to folklore meetings, gaining a place in European folklore field and helping UNESCO, especially by making promotions, to set up its substructure in Turkey. All fields of science need to improve culminatively. In this respect, Journal of Turkish Folklore Researches contributed significantly to the accumulation of the field of Turkish Folklore. The journal serves as an archive in terms of History of Folklore. That is to say, in every issue, the journal had introduced to its readers all of national and international folklore events which took place during its lifespan, and published articles of the prominent researchers in folklore field such as M. Ragıp Gazmihal, Hasan Ali Yücel, Cahit Öztelli, Z. Fahri Fındıklıoğlu. This study has a crucial role in showing the place of Journal of Turkish Folklore Researches in the History of Turkish Folklore and in creating awareness about the importance of journalism within the field of folklore. This study discusses the criticisms directed at Journal of Turkish Folklore during those days and contributions of the journal to the modern folklore studies.
