Abstract

Dada came to being in a milieu of rapid change, destruction and hardship, following the First World War It started in a club named Cabaret Voltaire by H. Ball during 1915 and 1916. Dada accuses the artists for being a part of this system and refuses them. Its tendencies are mainly destructive towards art and it unleashes this destruction without feeling a necessity to replace the concepts it destroys with anything new or constructive. Artists who are a part of this movement, Dadaists, value the subconscious, associations, coincidences, and other things refusing reason or dogmas. Thus Dada is considered a step in the evolution of modern thought. Although the first appearances of new material are seen with collage in cubism, the ready-made which comes in to scene with Dada defines a new conceptual meaning for everyday objects used in art. The most prominent of this new representation of everyday objects are Duchamp’s ready-mades which keeps the objects form as is but transforming its core concept, stripping its initial purpose and giving it a new one. For many Dada paved a new way for a different art and world view with its unique critique of the social and cultural environment enveloped the World and inspired many for years to come.
