The centrist, monotypic, and intolerant nature of the rules of modernism have been stretched in various ways. The domination of ideologies over the political sphere and of the class phenomenon over the social sphere has weakened. The “New Social Movements”, as a social science phenomenon, emerged as a reflection of the influence of these changes on the social movements. This study attempts to evaluate the reasons of labelling the post-1960s’ social movements as “new”, following the explanation of the concept of social movements. Firstly, what the concept of “social movement”s meaning; secondly, the historical context of the emergence of new social movements; thirdly what is the “new” in these movements; and finally some actions that can be considered within this context have been mentioned.},author={Çağrı D.
