Abstract

In this study, starting from the two expectations of the “Life Studies” course in elementary education, it was aimed to evaluate teacher candidates’ opinions about natural disasters and cartoon use in education by means of cartoons. The study, which characterizes a qualitative method, was conducted with the freshmen and sophomore teacher candidates studying their 1st and 2nd years in Ordu University, Faculty of Education, Primary Education Department during 2014-2015 education year in Turkey. It has been found that using cartoon in teaching natural disasters is fruitful. It has been detected that teacher candidates have a concept confusion about erosion and landslide. It has been found that cartoons are effective tools delivering the message intended in education.
