Abstract

Official correspondence tradition and method are known to have been used since the oldest times in the near east region. This system, which was developed more in Islamic period, enabled official operations to be accomplished faster and in a more understandable way. Iran, which underwent radical changes with the Mongol dominance, experienced some innovations in clerkship. Possessing the long-standing past of this method, official correspondence tradition in Iran helped government bureaucracy to operate in this process as it did before Mongolian period. In this period, when various differences were experienced by the region, some changes can be seen in language and style of the correspondence tradition. It is impossible to deny the impact of this situation on the class of clerkship. Use of this long-lasting tradition and Uyghur style official correspondence together makes the period a subject of interest. In this context, this paper aims to convey information about clerks, their activities and the changes experienced in correspondence tradition between 1231-1295.
