Abstract

The Conceptual Art movement that emerged approximately in the 1960’s, aimed to reflect the artists’ ideas with a wide variety of materials in a non-traditional way, was accepted also as the beginning of the Arte Povera, which adopts the basic principle of using cheap, waste, natural, temporary materials and regarded as an avant-garde narrative form in itself. Arte Povera, also known as “Poor Art”, has developed in Italy since 1967 with an anti-elitist understanding and represented mainly by Mario Merz, Jannis Kounellis, Pino Pascali, Alighiero Boetti, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giovanni Anselmo and Gilberto Zorio. This study is a screening model research that examines Arte Povera in terms of the understanding of the main artists with the groundbreaking forms of representation in the historical process of art and interprets with the examples from prominent artworks.
