Abstract

Recently, theoretical and empirical studies that examine ethical considerations of students such as fairness, justice, loyalty, honesty, generosity have increasingly gained importance in literature. Some studies have found that education has an effect on undergraduate students’ attitudes in relation to different ethical considerations. This paper explores students’ perceptions of fairness about different allocation mechanisms in case of scarce resources and compares with results of other studies. To this end, we designed a survey with some questions among a large group of students from different departments at Dumlupinar University in Kutahya, including economics, business administration, applied sciences, sociology and theology. Results contrasting with orthodox economic theory show that other allocation mechanisms are much preferred to price system. In addition, we find that studying economics has an effect on the attitudes of students toward the fairness of pricing.
