Abstract

Writing and reading correspond to 'literary novel' which requires a certain process and culture accumulation; A popular novel that appeals to every segment, does not take much time to read, and often consumes fast, has a place that can not be denied in our literature. In his literary novel Çalıkuşu, Reşat Nuri Güntekin has been working on a social situation like the view of society towards educated and modern women besides the problems related to education of his era. In Canan Tan's Piraye, the main hero is a educated fellow. Psychological condition of the spouse of different cultures is presented. Both romans have a conflict with what should be. It is a message embodied in the hero of the novels that must be, and therefore the narrator wants to convey. Both novels arise from the tension between the two. In addition, both romans have elements that distinguish between literary novels and popular novels, such as the ways in which they are handled and the way they are expressed. In this article, the social types, behaviors of the groups, the role of the main characters in the mentioned works are examined and an explanation is given in terms of social psychology in terms of popular novel - aesthetic novel.
