Abstract

Perhaps, there is not anyone who has not heard anything about the Turkey-EU relations which has become an endless story because there is a vast literature including academic works and op-eds on these relations. Some of these works bring these relations back to the Ottoman Empire, some of them starts from the Republican times, and some of them are written instantly. Therefore, it is safe to say that there are not any generations that does not know the EU-Turkey relations, especially in Turkey. Starting from this point, “The EU-Turkey Relations from Refugee Crisis to 15th July Coup Attempt: Is It Possible to Rejuvenate Relations” titled this paper analyses relations without taking back to the far past, instead by focussing the period when the relations have peaked and then have come to a breaking point under the AKP rule. Today, the frozen EU-Turkey relations have come to a breaking point after the EU backed coup-plotters during the 15th July Coup Attempt. The AKP governments period, especially the reactions from the EU and the member states in the aftermath of the coup-attempt will be demonstrated. Also, predictions on the EU-Turkey relations and whether they have changed or not in the aftermath of the coup-attempt will be analysed. Finally, this paper will answer the question of whether it is possible to rejuvenate relations and will discuss solution suggestions.
