Abstract

It is acknowledged that the Prose Poetry emerged in France in the mid 19th century and became a species by the poems of Baudelaire. This type of poetry came to our Literature in Tanzimat term. In the direction of Kaplan and Tansel's views, Sinan Pasha's Tazarru'name is regarded as the first example of the Prose Poem. Then, with both Ekrem and Hamid, both theoretical and practical examples are started to be given. With the Servet-i Fünun period, Halid Ziya's Prose poems contributed significantly to the development of the poetry. Ömer Seyfettin is a well-known figure in our Literature with the Yeni Lisan article and his stories. In addition to his stories, he has also given poems, prose poems, anecdotes and memories. In the poems of Seyfettin, who says that he has memorized the poems of Namik Kemal in the years when he was inclined to literature, there is the effect of Servet-i Fünun poems and Fikret. In addition to his poetry, he gave prose poems with the same effect too. Ömer Seyfettin wrote twenty-five prose poems, the first in 1902 and the last in 1919. In this study, it was aimed to make an evaluation onto Ömer Seyfettin's prose poems.
