Abstract

Traditional celebrations and seasonal festivals in Turkey have been sunk into oblivion due to urbanization, migration and cultural deformation. A large part of communities that used to live a life integrated with nature have lost their contact with nature greatly. For communities which do not change the constant temperature of their flat, not sow seed or pasture their animals when the spring comes, of course the arrival of spring, grass turning into green or mating of the sheep has no value at all. This has caused the seasonal festivals to be forgotten. In this article, we will discuss the Crocus Day which is mentioned as one of the other names and practices of Nowruz festival that entered the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009 and the Crocus Festival being held in Kursunlu town of Hekimhan, Malatya, with respect to the role played by universities, municipalities and non-governmental organizations since 2003 in preservation and revival of the intangible cultural heritage.
