ANALYZING AYLA MOVIE ACCORDING TO THE ACTANTS MODEL OF GREIMAS AS A VISUAL HISTORICAL NARRATIVE BİR GÖRSEL TARİH ANLATISI OLARAK AYLA FİLMİNİN GREIMAS’IN EYLEYENSEL ÖRNEKÇESİNE GÖRE ÇÖZÜMLENMESİ
This study aims to analyze Ayla (2017) movie which is considered as a visual historical narrative in the frame of Actants model of Greimas. First, by briefly addressing structuralist approaches, the method of analysis of Greimas, an important representative of the School of Semiotics based on the analysis of V. Propp's tales, will be examined. Greimas' methodological analysis provides useful tools for analyzing visual texts. Greimas has limited 31 functions inherited from Propp to firstly twenty than four basic functions. This categorization is very functional in revealing the basic structures contained in visual descriptions and in identifying similarities. Based on the actions of the actors in the narrative of Greimas, Actants Model was used in the analysis of Ayla- 2017 which visualized a historical event. In this film, which has reached an important audience the real events that have happened to a Turkish soldier who has participated in the Korean War is pictured. Greimasian analysis of this film, which is based on a historical narrative from a personal story, presents new possibilities for reading the narrative of visual history.
