Abstract

Violence is inevitable where there is war. But for thousands of years, the phenomenon of war has taken its place in painting art as an infinite glory, a representation of fame and honor. From the 18th century onwards, war paintings that gradually changed shape began to reflect the facts with all its might. These war paintings, which turned into horrific depictions at the time when even the most secluded nightmares will leave behind, have begun to testify of the time and reflect the reality of society, not power. Francisco Goya and Fernando Botero are two great painters who lived in different centuries and are among the most famous artists of his time. Two artists who obtained subject the wars that took place in the period they lived and the terrible events created by these wars, have also created a large series of paintings. In this series of paintings, titled "The Disasters of War" by Goya and "Abu Ghraib" by Botero, the artists treated images of acts of violence, sexual humiliation and torture in the war. Purpose of the research; It is to identify the descriptive similarities of the images in which the images of sexual humiliation and torture are emphasized in the famous series of Goya and Botero. Research data has been obtained by literature search with historical research method. Similarities of influence and reaction of war has created violence, sexual humiliation and torture on societies on different artists who lived in different histories and cultures were revealed.
