Abstract

The main aim of this research is to examine communication skills of the children who attend pre-school education. In the frame of this main aim, it was investigated whether the communication skills of 5-6 year-old children who attend pre-school education vary by age, time of attendance to preschool education, marital status of the parents, family income level, duration of stay in kindergarten, number of children in the family and birth order. The relational screening model was used in the research. The research sample consists of 500 children who are 5-6 year-old and attend pre-school education in 14 public preschool education institutions in 6 districts of İstanbul in 2016-2017 academic year. The data collection tools used in the research were “Information Form”, “Comminication Skills Scale For 5-6 Aged Children”. The data collected for the research were analyzed using SPSS 20 program. The results obtained from the research are as follows: The communication skills of 5-6 year-old children who attend pre-school education vary by age, time of attendance to preschool education, marital status of the parents, and family income level; do not vary by duration of stay in kindergarten, number of children in the family and birth order.
