Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impacts of nurses’ emotional labor behaviors on the hopelessness level. The emotional demonstrations that nurses which work in Kocaeli at private and public hospitals exhibited to their patients were deep acting which was the extent of emotional labor, surface acting or expression of naturally felt emotions. In this study, the impacts of the hopelessness level were measured according to these three behavior types. The area of this study was nurses which work at private hospitals in the center of Kocaeli. The results of the survey which were implemented to participants who were selected with random sampling were analyzed with the program of SPSS 21, examined the connections between the behavior of emotional labor and the hopelessness level and some demographic features. The emotional labor behaviors of participants were measured with Emotional Labor Scale in Turkish version which was developed by Diefendorff and his friends as well as the participants’ hopelessness levels were measured with Beck Hopelessness Scale.
