Abstract

This study aimed to examine the ways of coping with the stress and related factors among physiotherapy students. A cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2017 in Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Health Sciences. The population of the study was 308 physiotherapy students enrolled in academic year 2016-2017. Data was collected via a questionnaire which contains socio-demographic questions and “Ways of Coping Scale”. Results are reported as the mean ± standard deviation. It was determined that the “self-confident approach” was the most used and “submissive” was the least used methods by the participants. In problem-focused/active; females compare to males used “seeking social support” methods of coping with stress more frequently (p<0.05) but males compare to females used “optimistic approach” methods of coping with stress more frequently (p<0.05).The students who wanted to study physiotherapy by themselves and the students who were satisfied with the study in the physiotherapy used “problem-focused/active” style of coping with stress more frequently (p<0.05) Physiotherapy students should be trained about the ways of coping with the stress during their education and preventive methods should be developed for the risk groups.
