Abstract

Mahmud Tahir Lashin is the pioneer of Western style Egypt modern short story writing and one of the writer who has contribution to its development. He founded the Modern School (Al-Madrasa al Haditha) in 1917 with his friends who are of the same mind and al-Fajr magazine is founded by them in 1925 to publishing their studies. Via this magazine they had chance to share their thoughts, the changes and developments in literature with their readers. Lâşîn published twenty-nine stories, mostly in al- Fajr, which are collected in Sukhriyat al-Nay, Yuhka Anna, Al-Nigap al-Ta’ir that is brought Egypt short story writing up to scratch. Writer who didn’t remain insensitive to the society’s problems, deal with whole social problems observed in real life in the perspective of his literary understanding. In this study, the stories collected in Sukhriyat al-Nay, Yuhka Anna, Al-Nigap al-Ta’ir examined separately according to their theme and the results are indicated as an opinion.
