Abstract

Literary texts are the most aesthetic witnesses of life since these narratives reconstruct what belongs to the society with a metaphorical discourse. In her novel Karanlığa Direnen Yıldız, Sevinç Çokum examines the 27 May 1960 coup, one of the breaking points of Turkish history. Taking up the relationship between the ruling party and the opposition party, Sevinç Çokum approached to the 27 May military coup with a critical attitude. She examines the relations of the Democratic Party with the army, the press and the university during the years of ruling, and the attitudes and manners mutually exhibited in these relations. She identifies the roles of the army, the press and the university in the 27 May 1960 coup. She criticizes the legal problems seen in Yassıada trials and sheds light on the psychological, political and economic disruption that the coup creates on society. In this study where we are leaning on Sevinç Çokum’s novel Karanlığa Direnen Yıldız, the reflections of the socio-political situation in the society in a certain period of political history will be determined and a background reading will be made.
