Abstract

Because of the fact that today's society is multicultural, community interpreting is becoming more and more important, although it is a subfield of translation studies. Along with globalization, societies are closing up and their need for community interpreting is accordingly increasing day by day. One of the main aims of an academic translation and interpreting training is to have a theoretical background based on the translation and interpreting practices of the translator/interpreter candidates. In every part of life, community interpreting activities can be encountered. Therefore, it is important for the institutions providing academic translation and interpreting training to make educational plans considering the issue of community interpreters. In our study which adopts a descriptive method, translation and interpreting training programs in Turkey were determined and courses for community interpreting were evaluated by considering the course plans and course contents of the related programs.
