Abstract

Along with modernization there occurred various political views and tendencies worldwide, and different communities from around the world held and still continue to hold conscious demonstrations in order to create social impacts and changes. The subject of study, which is examined in sociology under the title “social movements”, often takes place in the literary world and is subject to literary works. This being the case, one of the contemporary writers of German literature Uwe Timm, in his 1974 novel “Hot Summer”, depicts the story of the 68 Generation’s Student Movements, which he himself also played an active role. He narrates how the movements have started and developed in Germany’s Munich and Hamburg, and how the protagonist Ullrich has transformed into a revolter from a man living relatively far from the social and political events of the world. The 68 Generation’s Student Movements have started in almost everywhere in the world and in a very short time took a universal dimension, forcing societies to a period of change and transition and adversely affecting them both politically, economically and socially. The study thus aims to narrate how the student movements in question have caused changes in the protagonist Ullrich’s life and personality.
