Abstract

Women’s Museums which are bringing new breaths to the women’s movements and new museology in Turkey, speed up in parallel to their improvement in the world. They contain the notion of both museology and feminism, thus, they start to become a place of alternative opposition for writing history and object based in the museums. Women’s Museum are also a collective struggle platform for women's movements. They have differences from traditional museums in many examples in the world such as their structures of establishment, the style of management, the working concepts on an ideological basis. They apply non-static, interactive methods to create cultural identity. They question the definition of the museum with the approach of new museology that challenge the museum’s walls. There are 4 women’s museums in Turkey; one of them, the Women’s Museum İzmir, has its own location and 3 of them, Women’s Museum İstanbul, Antalya and Mersin are working on virtual platform. Women’s Museum İstanbul is the first virtual city women’s museum inTurkey and the third city women’s museum in the world. It aims to change, create a place to honour and inform, in order to keep the history of women up to date and to make a contribution to women's memory. The museum creates an inclusive woman history memory by bringing together women’s history in an intercultural dialog, and it is the unique example among the women’s museums in Turkey. In this research, we will try to analyze the Women's Museum İstanbul with the approach of new museology, inclusiveness and feminism to introduce it to the world of science.
