Abstract

The Gothic movement takes its name from Got which is known for its destructive vandalism and destruction. This movement is influential in many areas of art, from architecture to literature and has emerged as a result of a reaction like other movements. The gothic movement shows itself with fear factor in the literature. For this reason this literary type is also known as horror literature. Religion, folk beliefs, superstitions and myths are the sources that feed the gothic narratives. The gothic novels, which had already begun to be written in the West, have reached a considerable mass of readers. The first examples of the gothic novel in Turkish literature have begun to be seen much later than in the west. A remarkable increase is observed in the number of novels in gothic style in Turkish literature in 2000s.
