Abstract

Objective: This study was planned to investigate of upper extremity functional level according to gender in patients with type 2 diabetes. Material and method: 20 male with type 2 DM (54.1±7.9 yıl) and 20 female with type 2 DM (56.0±4.7yıl) total 40 people participated in the study. The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Test (DASH-T) test was used for evaluation functional capacity. Hand grip strength was measured with a Grip Hand (TTK5401) hand dynamometer. Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparative analysis and significance level was p <0.05. Findings: When we compared the upper extremity functional level of both groups in terms of DASH-T score (p = 0.00) and hand grip strength (p = 0.00) statistically significant difference was found in favor of male group. Conclusion: At the end of our study, it was seen that in female patients with type 2 DM, upper extremity functional level and hand grip strength were worse than their male patients with type 2 DM.
