Abstract

In this study, the views of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant on education, especially moral and character education, were tried to explaine. This study is based on Kant’s work "Über Pädagogik (On Pedagogy)", which was compiled from notes while teaching pedagogy at the University of Königsberg. Kant is one of the philosophers who initiated the period of enlightenment in education and formed the basis of modern pedagogical thought and practice. According to Kant; human is the only being who needs education and human can only become human through education. Also a good education will bring out good things in the world. In this context, human education should be directed to the moral law and it must develop all natural endowments of human. Because the primary aim in moral education is the formation of human character and to be a good person. Kant, who pursued a life style (Lebensform) appropriate to his teaching style (Lehreform) (Cassirer, 2017a, s. 23), has argued that human being must be educated with moral values to be a ‘human’ in a real sense.
