Abstract

Time as a concept is one of the most controversial issues in philosophy. Scholars, who deal with it, do not think that it is independent of being. Cahit Koytak, in his poem called İnsan Olmasaydı which occurs in his Yeni Başlayanlar İçin Metafizik, discusses this concept within the frames of poetry tradition and he somewhat reveals his own conception of being. In the poem Koytak works the concept of time through the classical period’s perception of being and he uses the poetic language of the modern age and also presents a mystical perspective to his readers. Poetry as an art is a product of the man’s attempt to transcend the objective reality and it has an aspect that exceeds the limits of temporality. This clearly can be seen in Koytak’s poem. In this article, I am trying to show that how, in the poem, man’s search for truth is dealt with through the concept of time.
