Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the cognitive structures of pre-service science teachers related to the science lesson. The research data were collected from 32 pre-service science teachers in a university science teaching department in 2015-2016 academic year. In the study, word association test (SEE) was used as data collection tool. The science lesson for WAT was determined as the key word. Examining the words of the pre-service teachers about the science lesson, it was revealed that they related to 149 different words. Among those words, most related to science lesson by pre-service teachers; physics, chemistry and biology. As a result of the analysis of the words obtained in the research, the cognitive structures of pre-service science teachers are divided into six categories. These categories; the relationship between science and the society-environment, the fields related to the science lesson, research in the science lesson, the terms in the science lesson, the views on the science lesson, the tools in the science lesson.
