Abstract

Turkish art began to show itself at international art organizations with world fairs held in the second half of the 19th century. With constructing of fine arts galleries at these fairs, world fairs gain importance as an environment where countries and artists show themselves in terms of art production. The Ottoman Empire took place in these world fairs from the beginning and participated at fine art exhibitions especially with examples of painting art. These exhibitions can be considered as the first international art representations of the Ottoman Empire. The exhibitions, which Ottoman Empire participated in, world countries interested in these artworks and empire was able to show the first examples of paintings in Western criteria.
