Abstract

Fauvism and Expressionism is one of the leading arts of modern art. Both art movements are focused on showing emotions with intense colors. The fovists used the object differently from its own color, rendering it in rude brushing, distorting the form and perspective. Expressionists used this pictorial approach of the Fovists who emerged before them and used it to express the feelings of the lost people in the metropolises, machines, new social relations of the modern age. In this study, the reasons for calling the art movements of Fovism and Expressionism, which are very similar to each other, as different art movements were investigated. Related books and articles were scanned for the research and the visuals were examined and compared. Some art circles claim that fauvism and expressionism are different art movements. However, when both art movements were approached without considering their historical contexts, different results were reached. From this point of view, it is concluded that both art movements are expressive, and that Fovism is more than a concern for pictorial composition as claimed.
