Abstract

It is known that the governments which have been dealing with various economic problems from past to present and who have been forced to provide economic stability in Latin American countries, have a great difficulty in stabilizing the country also. Of course, there are some reasons why political stability cannot be fully established in these countries. On the other hand, this status raises the question of the extent to which stability or instability affects the economies of countries. Thus, the effect is investigated empirically in this study. The study was conducted based on the annual data of the South American Nations (UNASUR) countries between 1996 and 2016. Panel data, which combines horizontal section and time series analysis, has been used as econometric method. As a result of the study, it was found that the effect of political stability on GDP per capita chosen as an indicator of economic growth was not statistically significant.
