Abstract

Violence, harassment, rape and murder against women is an insoluble social wound in Turkey and also worldwide. As the numbers by Human Rights Association, every 4 hour a woman is raped or subjected to violence. Especially in recent years, the intense involvement of women in the media rape can be considered as an indicator of an awareness on this issue. The initiation of social campaigns in many media against violence against women, harassment and rape, and many other researches on this issue have kept the issue on the agenda and paved the way for new legal arrangements. Undoubtedly, the role and effectiveness of the mass media is an important aspect of the violence against women. At this point, it is one of the effective mass communication tools in understanding, reproducing or shaping the value judgments of the society in which it is formed. In this context, cinema films, women's representations and the effectiveness of violence prevention and social awareness are an important area of study. Because cinema films reflect the value judgments that exist in society, it is also effective in creating new value judgments. The short fiction film Çemberin Ucu (2016) which was taken from this point, was founded on the representation of the reality of this social problem with a cinematographic expression. In this study, it is aimed to determine how the female representations of the film are reception by the audience based on the main subject of this film.
