Abstract

After the victory of the War of Independence, the Republic was proclaimed as the regime of the new state on October 29, 1923. The anniversary of this new regime was celebrated throughout the country by the state before it was accepted as the official feast the following year. Two years later on 19th April 1925, the TBMM, passed a legislation that accept Republic Day as a national fest. The Republic Day has been celebrated since then every year nationwide with various celebration programs organized and the participation of local administrations under the administration of the Republican People's Party. The Republic Day was celebrated with a more enthusiastic, meaningful and complete holiday atmosphere and meticulously prepared programs due to the first years of the Republican period were at the same time the first years of the state. The republic, revolution and similar issues intensively were used at the public as a result of the efforts of legitimacy and adoption of new regime, thus obvious reflections of these efforts were seen at national festivals such as at the Republic Day in various parts of the country. The people of Antalya welcomed the proclamation of the Republic with great joy and the Republic Day was celebrated here as well as in the whole country. The Republic Day was organized in all provinces within the province facilities in accordance with the instructions of the General Secretariat of the RIP. In these celebrations, which are of great importance for the participation of the people, it was aimed to provide the integration of the state-nation and the adoption of the reforms. This study gives information about how the Republic Day celebrations were made in Antalya between 1934 and 1944, which programs were implemented in these ceremonies and the content of the programs. This study also tries to determine the interest of the people of Antalya to celebrations and the perception of public opinion. The study is based archival documents and scholarly sources.
