Abstract

It is aimed to determine self efficacy perception of prospective music teachers with respect to music teaching and find out whether the perception changes on the basis of diverse factors such as their gender, class levels etc. In this study, comparative research design based on general survey model was preferred. The research population, choosing via convenient sampling, is comprised of 757 prospective music teachers attending 7 different education faculties of music departments throughout Turkey. “Music Teaching Self-Efficacy Scale” had been used as data collection tool. The major results are as follows: (1) Self-efficacy perceptions of prospective music teachers towards teaching music are quite sufficient. (2) Self-efficacy perceptions of prospective music teachers towards teaching music do not differ according to their gender, the type of high school they graduate, and the duration of teaching in the course. (3) Fourth grade prospective music teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions towards teaching music are higher than the other grades. (4) Prospective music teachers who have teaching practice experiences in schools and private courses have higher self-efficacy perceptions towards teaching music than who do not have similar experiences.
