Abstract

Iskilip is a district of the province of Corum. The remains in the city show that there has been an uninterrupted settlement since the Phrygians. Thecity has grown witht he foundations during the Seljukand Ottoman periods. The absence of Iskilip on important migration routes created a unique texture with its self-sufficient economic structure. The original texture has unexplored many architectural features. These include the traditional house architecture. The historical houses of İskilip, have its own characteristics, besides the general features of the Turkish house. The fact that the city is closed to external influences is an important factor in this formation. In this study, as a part of the work we conducted within the scope of the doctoral thesis lem “Iskilip City House Architecture”, plaster decorations in houses were examined. Due to the large number of houses in thecity, it is historically limited. The 90 households buil tbefore 1950 were included in thestudy. We can enter the 74 houses, internal and external features; 16 houses which can not be entered were evaluated with facade features. The interior and exterior walls of İskilip show rich craftsmanship. Gypsum plasters used in houses, places where ornament is located, techniques and motifs used are examined.
