UNATTACHED MOTIFS USED FOR FILLING THE SPACE ON IZNIK CERAMICS AND BUTTERFLY AS A NEW MOTIF PROPOSAL

Abstract

In today’s ceramic productions with influence of fritware Iznik ceramics which is the scope of traditional Turkish arts, the need of using a new motif has been occurred. During the researching of a new motif, butterfly stood out that decorated on lots of goods in various materials. As a new motif butterfly has been used in a spiral rounding composition along with ‘The Tuğrakeş Spiral Style’ on during first personal exhibition ‘An Innovative Approach To Traditional Turkish Ceramic ‘ with the thought of ‘if been loved it can be sold’ in 2006. By the passing time it has been seen that butterfly motif can be easily applied as well as taught how to apply. Then it has been applied and began teaching students in compositions influenced by Iznik ceramic’s colours and motifs underglaze brush decoration which is popular for organizing the balance of colours and empty- full. In this study, as recommended motif butterfly used for to fill the spaces in a composition so that the unattached motifs used for filling the space on fritware Iznik ceramics will be discussed with some samples. Simple template for drawing butterly motif and usage made until this time with the samples of student works will be given.
