Abstract

Glass is a material which can be recylced without harming the environment. This creates considerable benefits when compared with completely raw manufactured production. Like all production, glass production affects the ecosystem in two ways: the consumption of natural resources, and environmental pollution resulting from the manufacturing process. Both of these are due to obtaining raw material from nature. In our current day, there is an increase in the manufacturing of goods that are either not consumed or after consumption are unable to decompose. The extra waste is both harmful to the environment and fiscally careless. Considering that glass is a material that can be recycled one hundred percent, any glass products that are not recycled are a loss from both an economic and environmental point of view. In this study, firstly glass is evaluated in regard to sustainable development and the effects of production and consumption during this process are discussed. Following this, the use of consumer waste in product development by artists and designers and the recycling of waste as objects of art and design, is evaluated by looking at sample studies with cold and hot glass shaping techniques.
