Abstract

The heads of the Ottoman gravestones, which we cannot reach to definite judgments, are generally seen in male gravestones. However, in female’s gravestones hilly use is more common. It is also known that the heads are used in female gravestone together with hilly. Due to the forms in Aydın Kuşadası Adalızade cemetery, 10 female heads were identified in two types, called reverse bell and mushroom. Artifacts are dated to earliest 1760-1761 the latest 1835-1836. While head surface is usually decorated with herbal elements, the neck surface joining under the head, a necklace motif is seen. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of these works in all aspects of Turkish plastic arts.
