Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate effect of the high school students' social media usage attitudes on alienation. The research group of the study consists of 551 students from 9th, 10th and 11th grade studying in 5 secondary schools in Eyüpsultan district of İstanbul. In data collecting Personal Information Form, Social Media Attitude Scale and Dean Alienation Scale were used. After the analysis, it was seen that independent variables had a significant relationship with alienation score. Attitudes on alienation, a significant difference was found between students who spent 5-10 minutes and students who spent 31-60 and 121 minutes and above. In addition, it was found that the students spent between 11-30 minutes were significantly different from the students who spent 121 minutes and above. A significant difference was found between the averages alienation levels of students using real name and alias.
