Abstract

Due to scientific progress and technological developments, modern man is exposed to a massive message bombardment in the face of both mainstream media and social media. In this sense, it is becoming more difficult for individuals to reach sound results and to reach right and healty judgments. In this case, Media Literacy course at secondary level is very important for teaching contemporary thinkers to critical thinking. In order to achieve success in PISA, which is an international examination applied to students attending formal education at Grade 7 and above, the value of Media Literacy is increasing day by day in order to teach critical thinking. The Curriculum of the Media Literacy course, which was taught as an elective course in grades 7 and 8, was updated in 2018 and the courses started to be conducted in the 2018-2019 academic year in line with the objectives of this program. In this study, the 2018 Middle School Media Literacy Curriculum was discussed in the context of critical thinking and evaluated in the context of the basic elements of critical thinking such as persuasion techniques, propaganda methods and questioning skills. Document analysis method was used in the study planned in the qualitative research design.
