Abstract

Dictionaries, which are the vocabulary casts of poets and writers, are important sources in language studies. We reach data on words and word groups used in the artists’ works with the methods of lexicography, a subfield of linguistics. With the dictionaries, as we call “dictionaries of artist”, we learn about both the style of the artists and the cultural accumulation of the period they live in. We determined Turkish Elements in the Vocabulary of poet Nedim in this Article which we prepared using Lexicology. Although most of the Divan poets has a negative point of view on Turkish, Nedim has given place to Turkish spoken by ordinary people. Nedim’s understanding of plain language has led us to lean towards the Turkish elements in the Divan. In this study, we have provided a cast of the Turkish rooted/bodied words in Nedim’s Divan with their meanings and statistics of the word groups formed according to the Turkish syntax. From this point of view, we have tried to reveal the difference of Nedim in our language tradition and to draw attention to the necessity to emphasize the Turkish elements in the vocabulary of the artists for the preservation, transmission to the next generations and the continuation of national sensitivity of Turkish.
