INTELLECTUAL APPROACHES IN LOGO/EMBLEM DESIGNS FROM THE POINT OF CORPORATE IDENTITY

Abstract

There exists a social, cultural, social and historical relationship system, that arrives today from the past between corporate identity concept and the logo or emblem, which represents this concept. In this paper, based on relationships of the symbols and signs called as emblem with historical past in sociocultural context, with which type of intellectual approaches “the most ideal logo or emblem that can represent identity concept at functional level” can be designed from the point of today’s contemporary communication and design is tried to be explained analytically via a number of selected examples. In this analytical method, which is addressed in detail in the paper, way of thinking for intellectual aspect of design is idealized strategically in terms of form and content, all actions, that take place between intellectual outset and formal result are presented in design principles, which express “iconic symbols”. When whole study is evaluated, it is concluded that the logo or emblem to represent corporate identity expression, which is a concept belonging to twentieth century should be designed in the language of contemporary design with a number of ways of thinking having more different social contents from the point of new technologies, compared to the past, with today’s creative approaches.
