Abstract

The developments in America during the process of the beginning of World War ll led to significant breakages in American art. As a result of the artists who emigrated from Europe to America due to the war and exhibitions aimed at introducing European modern art in America during this period, the American art which gained action, also gained a great movement with the ‘Federal Art Project' implemented by the US government. In this process, printmaking not only freed itself from the narrow space it was stuck in, but also entered into a major breakthrough. With the Federal Art Project, printmaking produced in ateliers spread throughout the country and that led to the spread of printmaking to a wide audience and increased awareness. In the second half of the 20th century, printmaking made up an important part of the production of Abstract Expressionist artists. One of the reasons for this great momentum of printmaking is printmaking ateliers established in the process. The relocation of Atelier 17 from Paris to New York, and other printmaking ateliers established in the process, led to the golden age of printmaking in the 1960s
