Abstract

The tradition of sending surah to the people of Haremeyn, an important socio-cultural service in Islamic civilization, began with the Abbasids and continued during the Fatimid, Eyyubi, and Mamelukes. It was a turning point that Yavuz Sultan Selim Han took Egypt and this tradition continued until the fall of the Ottoman Empire. In addition to sending Surre, resources were provided to Haremeyn foundations from the crops allocated to Haremeyn. These aids sent to the Ottoman Empire in accordance with the bureaucracy were recorded in the so-called the Surre Book. In our study, the purposes of the Haremeyn foundations were examined by establishing a relationship with the Surre Book No. 4167 dated H.1017 / M.1608 sent to Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. This book was taken to the center and the study was tried to be limited. As a result of the determination of where and how much of the share of surre in the distribution of surra, information was obtained on some of the family lineages in Ottoman cities. In addition, the Haremeyn foundations are stated in their amounts as mentioned in the book. In order to enrich our study topic, we used survey works, especially the Ottoman Archives of the Prime Ministry.
