THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-EFFICACY AND CAREER MOTIVATION: A RESEARCH IN HEALTH SERVICES VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

Abstract

Self-efficacy and career motivation, which are two important concepts in achieving future goals, express the individual's belief in himself/herself. Self-efficacy concept is started to researched by Bandura (1997) and career motivation concept is started to be researched by London (1983). Self-efficacy is the self-judgment of the individual on the capacity to organize activities and the capacity which is necessary to demonstrate a certain performance. Career motivation is accepted as the driving force of individuals choices and behaviors to reach their goals, having an important role in career choice. In this study, the relationship between students’ self- efficacy and career motivations was investigated. The sample of the study consisted of 291 students who study in health services vocational school in a foundation university in Istanbul. The questionnaire technique, which is a quantitative research method, was responded by 291 students and the responses were analyzed in the statistical program. In addition to the correlation analysis performed to reveal the accuracy of the hypotheses created, differentiation analysis was applied to determine the results according to the demographic characteristics. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there is no relationship between general self-efficacy and general career motivation. A low and moderate relationship was observed between the factors of both variables.
