Abstract

Worried about the start of the first World War, the Ottoman rulers made alliances with the Entente States. However, when these attempts failed to produce a result, they turned to Germany. The secret negotiations with Germany resulted in the signing of the Treaty on August 2, 1914. After the alliance agreement, the German warships Goeben and Breslau, by decision of the two countries ' administrators, crossed the Dardanelles on 10 August 1914 and arrived in Istanbul.
