Abstract

At the point where art begins, it is possible to see the expressionism of one’s own identity. This article has the goal to view the process of Expressionism in history. Firstly, expressionism is explained as a concept, first examples of expressionism in history are studied through the perspectives of primitive people and art while explaining their motivations. Later on, Munch, Cezanne and Kandinsky’s artworks are shown as examples and how expressionism took place in Modern Art are examined. While making connections between parts of Kandinsky’s book; “Concerning The Spiritual in Art”and expressionism, it is underlined that expressionism is not a style. Approaching today, how abstract expressionism evolved in history is studied through Pollock, connection of his way of working with Psychoanalysis is mentioned. In the following parts, the two pathways that abstract expressionism took place are explained. At last; Neo-Expressionism in the 1970’s are mentioned through examples.
