Abstract
Tüm canlıların ortak yaşam alanı olarak çevre, günümüzde insan kaynaklı baskı ve müdahaleler sonucunda tükenme noktasına gelmektedir. Her geçen gün yok olan ormanlar, kuruyan dereler, kirlenen doğa ve çölleşen topraklar bu durumu en çarpıcı şekilde gözler önüne sermektedir. Daha fazla kazanç ve birikim uğruna ortaya çıkan bu çevresel yıkımın gelecek nesilleri de tehdit eden boyutlara ulaşmasında, bilinçsizce yapılan turizm faaliyetlerinin önemli bir payı bulunmaktadır. Özellikle turizm bölgelerinde plansız ve kontrolsüz bir şekilde imara açılan yeşil alanlar ve deniz kıyıları, doğayı kirleten işletme ve tesisler turizm bölgesinde doğal çevre ile birlikte tarihsel çevre için de büyük bir tehdit oluşturmaktadır. Ancak çevre kalitesinin turizmde çok önemli bir unsur olduğunun unutulmaması gerekmektedir. Caydırıcı cezalar ve sıkı yasalar her ne kadar etkili olsalar da insanların çevreye karşı bakış açıları değiştirilmedikçe pek de istenen sonuçlara ulaşılamamaktadır. İnsanların bilinçlendirilmeleri, turizmde çevrenin sürdürülebilirliğine önemli katkılar sağlayabilecektir. Bu konuda yapılan çabalara çevre eğitimi rehberlik edebilecektir. Sürdürülebilir bir çevre için turizmde çevre eğitiminin gerekliliğinin vurgulanacağı bu çalışma, konu ile ilgili farklı örnekler çerçevesinde ele alınacaktır.

Abstract
The environment as a common living area of all the living beings has come to the point of exhaustion today as a result of human pressures and interventions. Disappearing forests day by day, drying rivers, polluted nature and desertification of soils reveals this situation most dramatically. Improper tourism activities for the sake of more profits are also responsible for the emerging of this environmental destruction that threatens the future generations. Especially unplanned and uncontrolled construction activities in the green areas and near the sea coasts, polluting enterprises and facilities are major threats to both historical and natural environment. However, environmental quality is of great importance for the tourism activities. Deterrent penalties and strict laws are also effective but unless changing people’s viewpoints against the environment, the desired results can not be achieved. Giving environmental awareness to the people will be able to make an important contribution to environmental sustainability in tourism. Environmental education will be able guide the efforts made in this regard. This study which emphasizes the necessity of environmental education in tourism activities for a sustainable environment, will be discussed in the framework of different examples on the subject.
