Abstract
Tıpkı doğal afetler gibi çevreye ve toplumsal yaşama pek çok etkisi olan göç kavramı, bir “sosyal afet” olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Göçün olumsuz sonuçları içinde en başta geleni, barınma ile ilgili sorunlardır. Barınma ihtiyacından doğan yeni yerleşim alanları, pekçok sorunu beraberinde getirmektedir. Konumu ve sosyo-ekonomik özelliklerinden ötürü, tarihsel süreç içinde Kocaeli ili de her zaman göçlerin etkisi altında kalmıştır. Bu çalışmada; göçün yerleşim alanlarına etkisi Kocaeli örneği üzerinden irdelenmiştir. Çalışmanın başında; göçün tanımı yapılmış, türleri, nedenleri ve sonuçları anlatılmıştır. Daha sonra Kocaeli’nin konumu anlatılmış, Kocaeli’nde göç durumu ve yaşanan göç sonucu özellikle barınma konusunda ortaya çıkan olumsuz sonuçlar, örnek fotoğraflar ile belirtilmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı; göç ile ilgili bilgi vermek ve göçün yerleşim alanlarına olan etkisini, en çok göç alan illerden biri olan Kocaeli örneği ile açıklamaktır. Ayrıca çalışmanın sonuç bölümünde; yeni yerleşim yerleri yapılırken nelere dikkat edilmesi gerektiği hususunda da bir takım önerilere de yer verilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın, interdisipliner bir anlayışla gelecekteki araştırmalara kaynak olması amaçlanmaktadır.

Abstract
The term of migration which has several effects on the environment and the social life like the natural disasters is defined as a social disaster. In the first place of the unfavorable results of the migration is the accommodation. New settlements which have arisen from the need of accommodation bring about several problems. Throughout the history, the city of Kocaeli is always being affected by the migrations due to its geographical location and socio-economic situation. In this study, the impacts of migration on the settlements are discussed and Kocaeli is given as an example. In the beginning of the study, the migration is defined and the types, reasons and the results of the migration are explained. Then, after giving the information about the geographical location of Kocaeli, the situation of migration in Kocaeli and the unfavorable results of migration especially about the settlements after migration are pointed out by giving the example of some photos. The aim of this study is to inform about migration and explain the effects of migration on the settlements by examplifying Kocaeli which is one of the cities of migration. In addition, the study is concluded with including some of the suggestions to pay attention while the new settlements are formed. It is also aimed that this study is a source for future studies from the interdisciplaniry point of view.
