Abstract


TEACHING STORY OF IDIOMS WITH DRAMA METHOD
In this study, thanks to the drama method, it is aimed to enhance the permanence of idioms which have an important place in culture and make them part of everyday life. Weak experimental design method is applied in this study. Selected idioms are determined by a questionnaire and ten questions pre-test and post-test including selected idioms are used to conduct the study. Weak experimental design method is based on a single group study. At that point, the study is carried out in Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Art Center drama class. This study focuses on twenty students between the ages of 10-12 and the students answer the per-test questions before the five-week practice. After pre-test, Idioms are presented via drama method, including five-week lesson plan and this enables the students become the part of the process. To find out the selected methods’ success, post-test and for four weeks retention test is implemented at the end of the process. The data obtained before, during and after the process is displayed in tables. Drama method is the area of life facing and touching on. Thanks to this method, the students touch on the idioms and face with the idioms while performing the small sections of a real life. According to the results of the study, it has been observed that drama provides an easy and permanent learning in teaching idioms that are abstract elements. Based on the data obtained from the study, suggestions are made.
