Abstract

Arif Ay, one of the contemporary poets of Turkish literature, focuses on human beings and everything about human nature in his poetry. Space is a phenomenon on which civilizations are written in his poetry. It is in this context that he evaluates the relationship between the city and civilization along with intellectual conceptions such as consciousness and realization. In the poems of Arif Ay, who defies all world-wide oppressions with a resistance discourse, cities that have hosted Islamic civilization are described as complementary compositions of cultural memory through past, present, and future. In this article, Arif Ay's poems will be used to examine his perspective of cities in Islamic cities’ geographies.
