Abstract

Abstract

The Internet at the center of our daily lives and the widespread use of mobile communication devices lead to some negative consequences in the societies all over the world. Aside from providing many benefits in different areas of life and speeding up daily practices; the use of internet, social media, and smart phones lead to both physical and psychological technologybased problems. The purpose of this study is to reveal the concepts that arise from excessive use of the Internet and social media platforms. As with excessive use of anything, the excessive use of the Internet, social media, and smart phones becomes a legitimate clinical disorder that requires treatment if it persists. With the excessive use of these technologies, young people in particular gravitate towards virtual relationships rather than real-life relationships. Internet addiction, which is a result of technology addiction, has led to new behavioral disorders such as fear of missing out on activities, which is called FoMO in the literature, smart phone addiction, fear of not having access to the Internet, fear of not having access to smart phone, online narcissism, cyberchondria, and selfitis. In order to mitigate these problems, we need to better understand both the online effects and the effects on individuals and societies.
